San Diego, CA
What I Remember
It’s funny, I had been dreaming about seeing a baseball game in San Diego since I was a little kid. I grew up watching the Mets and Phillies take trips out to this beautiful city and was so captivated by the fact that it always seemed to be sunny that I told people that it was where I wanted to live when I grew up. I even got my mother to include San Diego on a summer vacation while I was in high school so I could get a tour of San Diego State.
The funny part, though, is that I have very little recollection of this game at the ballpark that was then known as Jack Murphy Stadium. I remember a big crowd and a huge parking lot but “the Murph” was well outside of downtown and I don’t think we even visited the area around the spot where Petco Park would be built a few years later. Happily, I have been back to San Diego since and found the city to be everything I thought it would be and Petco Park is on the list of parks I want to add to my collection of baseball memories.
As an aside, the final pieces of old ballpark were torn down earlier this spring.

The Trip
I’m pretty sure we stayed in a motel after this game since we were headed inland the next day but I couldn’t tell you where…I’m guessing it was…um…inexpensive.
