Day 85: July 2, 1991

Hagerstown, MD

Park # 94

What I Remember

Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown was originally opened in 1930 and the city had a long history of professional baseball. It was a member of the Class-A Carolina League before our visit and the Class-A South Atlantic League afterward. In 1991 Hagerstown was a Double-A city although it would remain so for just one more year.

Today, though, the Hagerstown Suns web site seems stuck at the end of 2020. Sadly, this city in western Maryland was one of the communities contracted when major league baseball took over the minor leagues before the start of this season.

The park was lively the night we were there 30 years ago. Orioles pitcher Dave Johnson was on a rehab assignment and he pitched five innings of shutout baseball in a win over the Williamsport Bills.
