Harrisburg, PA
Park # 95
What I Remember
I remember that RiverSide Stadium in Harrisburg was, and is, on an island. City Island sits in the middle of the Susquehanna River right in the middle of downtown Harrisburg, not far from Pennsylvania’s state capital. It is a lovely park-like setting with walking paths and various other attractions in addition to the ballpark.
I also remember that ESPN’s Karl Ravech interviewed us at the game. Ravech was then a sports reporter in Harrisburg and came up with a clever way to do his standup..he actually filmed it looking at our camera while his own cameraman shot video of me shooting video of him.
I also remember a nice reunion with Harrisburg’s manager. Mike Quade had been the manager of the Macon Pirates during my one short season working in minor league baseball five years earlier. I had wondered if he would even remember me but he greeted me warmly and seemed genuinely interested in what Sue and I were doing.
Overall it was a busy night with the staff of the Senators, Sue and I worked on the grounds crew, I did an inning of PA announcing, we did radio interviews…it was one of our highlight evenings.,,,look for a a video covering it soon.
